Intranets
An intranet is an infra structure for communication. It is based on the communication standards for the Internet and the World Wide Webb. The difference being that the access of published information is limited to the users within the network. An intranet is designed to strengthen and develop internal information/communication,, make access to and exchange of information/knowledge within the organisation and also work as an interactive tool to simplify and support various business processes and work situations.

Web
A Web or web site (often also home page or site) is a coherent collection of texts, documents, pictures and multimedia objects that is accessible over the World Wide Web (that is, communication over the Internet using the HTTP protocol). To be able to visit a web site, a web browser is needed (such as Explorer, Firefox or Netscape) and a unique address (URL). The web has developed rapidly, from being very static pages holding information to comprising more and more advanced functions to manage dynamic information, to buy and sell products and services (electronic commerce) as well as providing different types of advanced services and entertainment.

Portal
A portal is a meeting-place to make access to information within a certain field more efficient. Instead of looking for information in many different places, all information is collected in one place. A good portal solution creates order and structure of large amounts of information, an increasingly important parameter in the complex business world of today. Links, search functions, dialogue, templates and access to systems are examples of areas of use.
There are different types of portals:
- Intranets with information and functions aimed at the whole of the organisation or some of the co-workers.
- Extranets where customers, suppliers or others can log in and receive or leave information.
- Commercial portals that collect buyers and sellers within a certain field, such as a business branch or value chain.
- Commercial or non-commercial interest portals/subject portals aiming at groups of individuals and/or organisations, that sometimes provide functions and services such as chat, e-mail and search functions.
